Ms. Gifford, Art

Hello!

My name is Ms. Gifford and I am the art teacher at Western Valley Middle School. I am happy to be a part of the school community and have been teaching here for six years. You are welcome to stop by the art room to see some of the amazing art created by our talented Wildcat artists.

The art program consists of many exciting art projects. All lessons are based on Arizona state standards for the visual arts. They may include painting, drawing, collage, sculpture techniques, and lessons on art appreciation, art criticism, and art history. Art class is not only a place to learn new skills and make art, it is also a place to read, write, and talk about art in our world.

The art projects are based on the elements of art and the principles of design. The elements of art include: color, line, value, shape, space, form, and texture. The principles of design include: balance, contrast, rhythm, theme, variation, unity, and style. Exploring the elements and principles of design through art projects helps students to think creatively, learn art skills, and learn art appreciation. Visual art is a fun and exciting part of a complete education.

I am passionate about teaching art and enjoy working with every student to help them succeed in learning new skills. I am highly qualified to teach art in Arizona, and enjoy working on my own creative projects. I also like to ride my mountain bike and spend time with friends and family.
